 DOMINIQUE SOUCY

FORMER ALL-CANADIAN BASKETBALL PLAYER AT LAVAL UNIVERSITY, CANADA

PLAYED 3 YEARS AS A PROFESSIONAL IN THE ABA

FATHER TO 4 KIDS

THE STORY

Dominique created the game as he was looking for a better way to teach decision making in basketball.  After reading books on how to create better soccer players using futsal, and reading the "Inner game of tennis", he decided to mix a couple of sports movements to create a new training environment for his students. The game was an instant hit and it became clear that it would become more than a training. Shortly after, Dominique called 30 of the best athletes from Quebec City to have a crack at this «secret sport». The goal he said was the "break the code" of a new game and create the perfect sport possible respecting three key pillars: 1) Keep engagement the highest possible with the least contact possible 2) Keep stress low with clear black and white rules and no place for "ball hogging" ... fun for all 3) Make sure every new rules improve decision making and the feeling of being "in the zone".

THE NAME

Then came the name. As it was very difficult to pinpoint one element of the sport in front of the other, Dominique gave the choice to athletes to decide the name of the sport. The concept of purity "Pür" came naturally since athletes were feeling the sport was the nicest reminder of what we all like in sport. The pure competition, togetherness, community vibe. Then came the concept of "Instinct". Early adopter athletes did not want to have a "ball" in the name, because they felt it was reductive. The real common denominator of the sport was not the ball, it was the inner feeling athletes felt to make instinctive decisions based on their own sports experiences and background. So there it was, the secret sport became Pur Instinct which became PürInstinct.

THE PÜRMISSION

Re-imagining grassroots sports to improve how we live in our communities.

Sport is often reduce to win and losses and a spectator theme. We go against this tendency and against the statu quo. While being competitor and wanting to win the game, we understand the true blessing of sports is to be able to exchange emotion and create long lasting bond that transcend the playing field. While spectators and viewership is a must to financial survival, we understand that the true beauty of sports reside in the inner feeling, like the feeling of catching a beautiful wave in surf in the middle of nowhere, or lending your most difficult trick in skateboard alone in your driveway after 1000 tries, or creating the perfect synergy with your teammates on a Saturday PürInstinct game at the park.

THE PÜRVISION

Building the sport of the future.
